GOLCAR BAND
Golcar Training Band
Rehearsals Monday 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm

Golcar Band has a commitment to developing new players of all ages from 6 to 60 through its Training Band. Unlike so many proud brass bands that have allowed their junior or youth bands to fade away, Golcar Band has placed its main emphasis on the Training Band to continue the fine tradition of brass band playing.
The Training Band did an exchange visit with a training band from Tewkesbury most recently in August 2015.
Parents often follow their children into the band either as beginners or through a rekindling of earlier musical experiences. Parent participation is great for children and the parental enthusiasm often exceeds and outlast that of their children!
We welcome returning players who may have played in their youth, had a lay off with a busy working life, and want to return when life allows.
Whatever your level, we will welcome you in and you will feel at home.
Our Conductor
Golcar Training Band is very fortunate to have Peter Strawson as its conductor.
Pete is a percussionist who studied music at Salford University. Pete specialised in conducting under the tutorship of Professor David King and Dr Howard Evans. He was also the recipient of the Goff Richards Award for performance and, whilst a student there played for the Leyland Band, during which time they won the National Brass Band Finals at the Albert Hall in 2005. Following a six month spell with the Black Dyke Mills Band, Pete is looking to focus more on conducting. Pete was a part of the conducting team for the National Methodist Youth Brass Band for four years.
Pete chooses music for the Training Band that appeals to children and adult members alike. He involves everyone, even people who have only just started, making everyone feel part of the band.
Interspersed with playing music, Pete does bits of tuition on rhythm, playing together, developing each section of the band to play its part. Individual lessons are given to beginners to get them started.
